This mask was created while I was reading Madeline Miller’s “Circe.” Some of the sadness of Circe’s long, lonely days of a goddess who outlives the humans she loves came through in the Moon Lady’s face. Both these women are powerful sorceresses and find themselves isolated for long periods of time. They find comfort in their witchcraft practice and fierce independence.

Her face is faceted from the tool marks left behind and her nose is prominent as a proper witch ;)

Materials: Basswood, paint, gold foil, varnish
